ประเทศไทยมีการค้าขายอัญมณีมาเป็นเวลานานหลายศตวรรษ โดยมี<br />
ศูนย์กลางการค้าขายอยู่ที่กรุงเทพฯ และจันทบุรี อัญมณียังคงเป็นสาเหตุ<br />
หนึ่งที่นักท่องเที่ยวจำานวนมากเดินทางเข้ามาประเทศไทย ผู้เชี่ยวชาญคาดว่า<br />
ประมาณร้อยละ 90 ของคอรันดัมที่มีการเจียระไน (ทับทิมและแซฟไฟร์) ในโลก<br />
นี้ต้องผ่านศูนย์กลางการค้าขายในประเทศไทยอย่างน้อยหนึ่งครั้ง นอกจากทับทิม<br />
และแซฟไฟร์แล้ว ประเทศไทยยังมีแหล่งแร่ควอตซ์ (เช่น อะเมธิสต์ รูทิเลทควอตซ์<br />
ควอตซ์ใส) อะความารีน (เบริล) การ์เนต สปิเนล เซอร์คอน และไม้กลายเป็นหิน<br />

ดังต่อไปนี้<br />
Thailand has been trading coloured stones for centuries. With<br />
hubs in both Bangkok and Chantaburi, gem-trading is still the<br />
reason many visitors travel to the country. Experts estimated that<br />
as much as 90% of all faceted corundum (rubies and sapphires)<br />
in the world, passed through Thailand’s trading centres at least<br />
once. In addition to rubies and sapphires, Thailand has deposits<br />
of quartz (such as amethyst, rutilated quartz and crystal quartz),<br />
aquamarine (a beryl), garnet, spinel, zircon and petrified wood.<br />
Thailand does not cut or deal in diamonds or emeralds, these<br />
gems are available for purchase, but they are imported.<br />
This article covers two of the best locations in Thailand to buy<br />
precious stones.<br />
จันทบุรี<br />
Chantaburi<br />
จันทบุรีนั้นตั้งอยู่ติดกับแหล่งหินแซฟไฟร์เก่าแก่อย่างเมืองไพลิน ประเทศ<br />
กัมพูชา (‘ไพลิน’ เป็นชื่อเรียกภาษาไทยของหินแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำาเงิน) และมีประวัติการ<br />
ค้าขายอัญมณียาวนานหลายร้อยปี ทุกวันนี้จันทบุรีถือเป็น “เมืองแห่งอัญมณี” ยุค<br />
ใหม่ มีผู้ค้าขายอัญมณีจากรอบโลกเดินทางมาขายหินดิบและซื้ออัญมณีที่ได้รับการ<br />
เจียระไนแล้วกลับไป<br />
เมืองที่เงียบสงบแห่งนี้จะมีชีวิตชีวาขึ้นมาเมื่อมีการจัดตลาดนัดในวันหยุดสุด<br />
สัปดาห์ ตลาดนัดนี้เปิดตอน 10 โมงเช้าวันศุกร์ มีการตั้งแผงตั้งโต๊ะเต็มเมือง สิ่งที่<br />
แตกต่างจากตลาดนัดทั่วไปคือ คนที่อยู่หลังโต๊ะมักจะเป็นผู้รับซื้อ ไม่ใช่ผู้ขาย ผู้<br />
เสนอขายจะเดินไปรอบตลาดพร้อมกระเป๋าที่เต็มไปด้วยอัญมณีและหยุดแวะที่แผง<br />
ต่างๆ เพื่อหาราคาที่ดีทีสุด<br />
ที่ตลาดนัดแห่งนี้มีการซื้อขายอัญมณีทั้งเป็นชุดและเป็นชิ้น แม้ว่าการซื้อเป็น<br />
ชุดย่อมถูกกว่า แต่คุณภาพของอัญมณีในแต่ละชุดจะแตกต่างกันออกไป ถ้าคุณเป็น<br />

Located next to the ancient sapphire source of Pailin, Cambodia<br />
(Pailin is also the Thai word for blue sapphires), its history goes<br />
back hundreds of years. As Thailand’s modern “gem city,” traders<br />
from all over the globe come here to sell rough stones and<br />
buy cut gems.<br />
This sleepy city comes alive during the weekend market. Starting<br />
at 10 a.m. on Friday, the city pops up with makeshift stands and<br />
tables. Contrary to normal markets, people behind the desk are often<br />
buying, not selling. Sellers will traverse the market with a messenger<br />
bag full of gems and stop at tables to wait for the best offer.<br />
Gems are sold by lot or by piece, and while it is generally<br />
cheaper per gem to purchase by lot, a varying quality of gem in<br />
each lot will differ. If you are a tourist only visiting, we recommend<br />
purchasing individual gems from reputable dealers, and it’s certainly<br />
worth it to get an independent lab test.<br />
