As per def<strong>in</strong>ition of co<strong>as</strong>tal zone, shown <strong>in</strong> Figure 6.8, Pirojpur is located mostly with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

<strong>in</strong>terior co<strong>as</strong>tal zone. Compare to exposed zone, <strong>in</strong>terior zones are more important from<br />

agricultural production po<strong>in</strong>t of view <strong>as</strong> because the sal<strong>in</strong>ity level there is still tolerable for<br />

traditional agriculture production. As shown <strong>in</strong> Figure 6.11 land cl<strong>as</strong>sification of Pirojpur is<br />

grouped under non-sal<strong>in</strong>e non-calcerios type, which is suitable for two crops <strong>as</strong> Aus and<br />

Aman (Figure 6.10). However, gradual <strong>in</strong>trusion of sal<strong>in</strong>e water either due to sea level rise<br />

(Figure 6.9) or upstream water withdrawal along the Ganges (Figure 6.9), the agricultural<br />

production of the region is under serious threat. Apart this, significant damage <strong>in</strong> agriculture<br />

is still possible <strong>in</strong> the region because of Cyclone and storm surges, <strong>as</strong> it w<strong>as</strong> evident dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

recent cyclone event the SIDR.<br />
