Although the magnitude of the changes <strong>in</strong> climate may appear to be small, they could substantially <strong>in</strong>cre<strong>as</strong>e the magnitude of exist<strong>in</strong>g climatic<br />

dis<strong>as</strong>ters like floods, droughts and cyclones, and decre<strong>as</strong>e their return period. For example, a 10 per cent <strong>in</strong>cre<strong>as</strong>e <strong>in</strong> precipitation may <strong>in</strong>cre<strong>as</strong>e<br />

runoff depth by one-fifth and the probability of an extremely wet year by 700 per cent. The likely climate change scenarios for <strong>Bangladesh</strong> are<br />

provided <strong>in</strong> Table 5.2.<br />
