(France) 1974-1991
David Dick
Ronick Herd
Dougie Edgar
Shire Herd
“Born in 1930 and later known
as “Mister Limousin” and “King
Louis”, Louis was chairman
of the French Limousin
Society from 1974 until 1991.
He contributed hugely to
the promotion of Limousin
across the world and to the
formation of the world-wide
federation of all the Limousin
breeders associations, in
Limoges”.
Nominated by:
BLCS Council 2022
William Mulligan
Banside Herd
“David established the
Ronick Herd in 1980 which
has since gone on to have
a huge influence on the
Limousin breed in the UK.
David was a progressive
thinker and contributed
significantly during his time
on Council from 1982 and
served as Chairman from
1988-1991. David has left
behind a significant legacy
and his contribution is hugely
admired and respected”.
Nominated by:
Craig Ridley, Honorary
President 2020-2022
“Dougie established the
Shire herd in 1980 and
became renowned for
breeding powerful cows with
exceptional temperament.
He enjoyed success at the
main shows and notably
won the Royal Highland and
Great Yorkshire Show in 1985
with bull Umar. Doug was a
real people person, hugely
generous and known for
his great sense of humour
and infectious smile and
undoubtedly contributed to
progressing the breed in the
UK”.
Nominated by:
Norman Cruickshank,
Chairman 1992-1995
“William was the main person
to introduce Limousins into
NI when in the mid-seventies
he bought heifers in the
south of Ireland for new
breeders in the north. In
1978 he went to France with
Jimmy McCambley to buy
80 pedigree Limousin heifers
which started many new
herds in NI at that time. These
herds resulted in the initiation
of the Northern Ireland Club
of which William was the first
chairman. He continued to go
to France for the next twenty
years, introducing new blood
lines which further helped to
establish the Limousin breed
in NI”.
Matt Ridley
Haltcliffe Herd
“Matt has been a huge
supporter and advocate of the
next generation and devoted
an enormous amount of time
to the North West Limousin
Breeders’ Club hosting many
events and winning the
annual herd competition
no fewer than 10 times.
The Hatcliffe herd made a
remarkable come back after
losing the entire herd to Foot
and Mouth in 2001, when
in 2006 Hatcliffe Vermount
became the first bull to reach
100,000 guineas”.
Nominated by:
