Chairman's Message
What a year for the Limousin Breed.
Record prices, record clearances
underwritten by confidence from
the commercial trade. It is pleasing to see
that our grass roots members, the length
and breadth of the UK are benefitting from a
strong commercial Limousin backbone which
underpins the success of our breed.
Having unexpectedly taken up the reins in
what was a year of celebration and change,
there is lots to look back on. The 50 th
celebrations were a chance for members to
meet again post covid, to socialise, to reflect, to
celebrate. I think we did all this and more. I’d
like to extend my thanks and gratitude to all
the Limousin staff team who worked hard to
ensure the 50 th celebrations were the success
many of you enjoyed. Richard Saunders
was integral in the event planning and
management and deserves recognition for all
that he did throughout the year of celebration.
For me the year had two important messages
– to look back and honour the foundation
members who set the stall out for the breed
5 decades ago. Their vision, investment and
tenacity laid the foundations for the breed.
Secondly, the celebrations allowed us to refocus
on the path ahead. The breed has many
attributes and the modern beef farmer has
many requests for their chosen breed be it ease
of calving, days to market or feed efficiency the
Limousin is the complete package and that, I
believe, is where our end users can continue to
capitalise now and into the future. The future
is so optimistic on many levels and I am truly
honoured to be your Chairman at such a great
time for the breed. The 50 th Anniversary will be
remembered by all who attended Whinfellpark
by kind permission of the Jenkinson family. It
was a pleasure and a privilege to be able to
view an outstanding herd of Limousins in their
home territory and what a set up looked after
by an amazing team! We shall be eternally
grateful to the Jenkinson’s for allowing us
to have an insight into their business which
is clearly showcasing all that is great about
the breed. Another of the highlights of the
50 th anniversary celebrations for me was the
installation of the Hall of Fame. We all have our
Limousin heroes and to be able to recognise
them in this way seemed very fitting. We have
a lot to be grateful for in our past as we look
ahead to the future.
I was also very touched to see the tribute from
the H&H Group to the late David Tomlinson
and the renaming of the main sale ring as ‘The
David Thomlinson Ring’. As a distinguished
breeder and someone who had influenced
the society from its start, 50 years ago, it was
right that David was remembered and that his
