ANNIVERSARY
1971 - 2021
HALL
OF
FAME
Leslie Thomas
Drysgol Herd
“Leslie was a great
ambassador for the breed,
establishing the herd in 1973
with the purchase of two ‘I’
heifers from the second major
importation of Limousins to
the UK, amongst the first
to arrive in Wales. Leslie
successfully crossed the
Limousin bull on to his dairy
shorthorn cattle illustrating
and promoting the value of
the breed as a terminal sire to
the dairy industry. Leslie was
a true pioneer of the breed
and was a great supporter of
a technical led approach to
cattle breeding”.
Nominated by:
John Phillips, Chairman
2014-2017
John Parry
Oakley Herd
“Johns purchase of Favori,
bred in the Dumas herd in
France, became a legendary
sire that influenced and
formed many successful cow
families. At a time when USA
Limousin breeders had an
insatiable desire for British
Limousin, the Oakley Herd
became one of the most
visited, culminating in the sale
of the Favori daughter, Oakley
Princess for £35,000”.
Dan Haak
Uplands Herd
“Dan had a wonderful eye for
cattle and horses and founded
the Uplands herd in 1975. A
cow to remember was Aliche,
who was by Prelude and a
combination of Bourbon and
Chastanet bloodlines. Dan
served on council from 1976 to
1980 and made a significant
contribution”.
Nominated by:
John Temple, Honorary
President 2014-2016
David Thomlinson
Beeches Herd and Auctioneer
“David was a breeder since
1977 with his Beeches
Herd and a huge Limousin
enthusiast and talented
auctioneer. There was no
place David was happier
than in his rostrum selling
Limousin, from the early
days when 6,000gns was a
great price to the glory days
of selling Haltcliffe Vermount,
the first 100,000gns bull, in
ring three, the Limousin ring
at Borderway Mart that has
since been named the “David
Thomlinson Ring” in his
memory”.
Nominated by:
