Limousin Cattle Club

Chairman Rob Kirton reports...

The club held it’s AGM in February where Rob Kirton

from the Ashledge herd was elected Chairman,

Alison Clark was elected secretary and Mike Clever

standing as treasurer for the 20 th year! Sue Stenner from

Society spoke about the herdbook and answered any

questions on Society matters.

Welshpool club sale was held in May, with a top price

of £10,000 for a bull from the Garryvaughan herd.

This sale saw bulls sell as far a field as Orkney Isles,

Northumberland and West Sussex. 17 bulls sold to

average just over £4,000.

The Autumn sale had the same top call of £10,000 for

Pabo Specialspice and £7,000 for Pabo Sos from the

Hughes family in Anglesey.

The Kirton Family (Ashledge Herd) very kindly hosted a

stock judging in July; it was very nice to see members

from other areas attending to see some excellent cattle.

On one of the hottest days of the year in August

the club’s annual herd open day took place at the

Garryvaughan herd by kind permission of the Lewis

family, The cattle looked tremendous even with the lack

of grass.

The herd competition was judged by Michael Diamond

(Point House herd) early September, 17 herds entered

the competition, where the Overall Champion herd

went forward to represent the club area for the 50 th

Anniversary National herd competition. Michael gave his

results at the annual dinner and dance held in Wrexham

in October, a good night was had by everyone who

attended with many people staying the night.

The club also held its first commercial herd competition,

Sion Eilir judged the herd’s and the results where as

follows:

1 st - W Williams, Penrhyn Farm, Holyhead, Anglesey,

2 nd - H & S Owen and Son, Red House Farm, Aberhafesp,

Newtown, SY16 3HH

3 rd - JA Wood & Sons, Kinnerton Farm, Ratlinghope,

Shrewsbury, SY5 OSX
