Limousin Cattle Club

Chairman Philip Davies reports...

2022 has been quite a year after the quiet of 2020

and 2021, with the show and sale season up and

running at full swing again.

The year started with the AGM that saw myself replace Mr

Richard Griffiths as Chairman. We hit the ground running

with preparations for the 50 th Anniversary celebrations.

The club held events throughout the area including

prizes at Hereford, Brecon and Whitland for Limousin

sired animals sold at market, as well as the club open

day which was to be held at the winner of the 2021 herd

competition, Messrs Lee and Lloyd of the Calogale Herd.

2022’s sales have not disappointed, with many of the

club members having great success in the sale ring.

In February Carlisle bull sale saw Chris White of the

Frogmore herd not only win Reserve Senior Champion

with his bull, the March 2020 born Frogmore Ronaldo,

but went on to sell him for 15,000gns. Also selling well

on the day was Senior Champion, Calogale Righteous,

brought forward by G J Lee and C M Lloyd of the Calogale

herd, Righteous sold for 10,500gns.

April saw the end of an era with the dispersal of the well

renowned Mynach herd of the Griffiths family, Cilgryman

Fawr Cwmfelin Mynach, with the family set on climates

and adventures new in France. Cows and calves sold

to a top price of 5,400gns for Mynach Nickiminaj, who

sold to club members, the Jenkins family Torcoed Herd,

Llantrisant. Bulls on the day sold to a top of 6,900gns for

Mynach Otis. The club would like to wish the Griffiths

family good luck for the future.

May Brecon bull sale saw a great sale for club members

with Dyfan and Carol James winning Overall Champion

on the day with Cowin Rebel, who went on to sell for

5,500gns, and also second in his class, Cowin Realdeal,

selling for 8,500gns. The James family also did well in the

female sale, winning Reserve Overall Female with Cowin

Sandy, who sold for 1,800gns to the Glyncoed herd.

Dinmore Limousins had their production sale at the

Dinmore estate on the 2 nd of July with a fantastic show

of females and bulls up for grabs, as well as frozen

embryos and embryo calves. Top price in the day was for

a 6 month old embryo calf, Dinmore Sensation, out of

show heifer Dinmore Perfection. She went on to sell for

30,000gns.

The Royal Welsh Show returned for the first time in 2

years and saw club members doing well in the sweltering

heat of the ring, with Paul Dawes presenting the heifer

Dinmore Perfection who won Overall Female Champion

and went on to win Reserve Overall Breed Champion.

Winning the Best Exhibitor Bred Female owned by a

breeder residing in Wales was Calogale Skye bred by G

J Lee and C M Lloyd who also won Best Junior Heifer

with Skye. RWAS Exhibtor Breed Pairs was won by the

Taygreen herd of James Jackson, with Taygreen Rhonda

and Ruby, while the Aled Edwards of the Dyfri herd won

the Recorded Continental Bull class with Dyfri Scholar

with Dyfri Samson coming in second. The Dyfri herd also

won the Limousin group of three animals, property of the

same exhibitor with Scholar, Samson and Sensation.

July also saw the delayed 50 th anniversary sale at H & H

Borderway mart Carlisle. The James family of the Cowin

Herd, entered Cowin Supereme who went on to sell

for 16,000gns. Of course, the anniversary celebrations

were not just about the sale, club members also took

part in the anniversary show. Representing the club

were the Dinmore herd of Paul Dawes, Cowin Herd of

Dyfan and Carol James, Frogmore herd of Chris White

and the Taygreen herd of James Jackson. Dinmore and

Taygreen both, winning firsts in classes 5 and 7 and

Frogmore winning second in class 7 also. Dinmore’s

heifer, Dinmore Solovely, won second in her class and

went on to win Intermediate Female Reserve Champion.

Also taking part were the Jones Family of the Mojo

herd, the Davies family of the Bleancwm herd and the

Edwards Family of the Dyfri herd. John and Ifan Philips
