To mark the 50 th anniversary of the British Limousin

Cattle Society in Northern Ireland, an Elite Show & Sale

of 38 pre-selected lots was held on 20 August 2022

in Ballymena Livestock Mart. Craig Ridley, President

of BLCS undertook the judging and James Little from

H&H selected the catalogue of animals forward and

conducted the auction. This event saw new sales records

achieved by Limousin bulls and females at official sales in

Northern Ireland.

Leading the trade at 22,000gns was the November 2021

born heifer calf Ampertaine Sherry from the renowned

herd of W J & James McKay. Drawing strong interest

before the sale, Sherry is by the prolific Ampertaine Elgin

and out of a terrific young home bred cow Ampertaine

Orchid.

With a small consignment of bulls selected for the sale,

Millgate Speedy, home bred by Michael Loughran sold for

11,000gns. Born April 2021 Speedy is sired by Norman

Ely and is out of the home bred dam Millgate Nifty.

As the local agricultural shows drew to a close the

following breeders were recognised for exhibiting their

animals each week at these events. Show Team of the

Year – Crawford Bros, Limousin Show Champion of the

Year- Deerpark Saffron, Connor & Ryan Mulholland and

Gordon Bull – Crawford Bros.

Jim Scott, past President of BLCS had the honour of

judging the BLCS 50 th anniversary National Pedigree

Herd Competition and travelled the length and breadth

of the UK to select his Overall & Reserve winning herds.

Congratulations to W J & James McKay and the

Ampertaine herd on being Reserve Overall Champions in

this prestigious competition.
