Limousin Cattle Club
Chairman Karl Suddes reports...
2022 was the return of normality with COVID no
longer holding the club back. The return of the
Northern Limousin Extravaganza was a welcomed
return with a great show of 32 Pedigree bulls and heifers,
alongside six commercial heifers and bullocks sired by
a Limousin bull were paraded in the safety of Skipton
Auction Mart under the judge Dougie McBeath of the
Springsett herd.
Retaining his crown at the show was Willy Barron with
his outstanding heifer Barrons Sierra by Ionesco. The
Commercial Champion and Reserve Overall Champion
went to the bullock ‘Captain Tom’ from the Priestley
family, Brontemoor herd which was sired by Trueman
Idol.
The following day the annual club sale at Skipton was
held, with thanks to Charlie Boden of the Sportsman
herd for judging the sale catalogue which included bulls,
heifers and cows with calves at foot. Zac Ward’s bull
Intack Sumo stood Champion on the day, an embryo
son by Maraiscote Graffiti which sold for 4,000gns to the
Brontemoor herd of the Priestley family. The Reserve
Champion was awarded to the Female Champion with
the youngest animal in the sale, the heifer Oddacres
Stella from the Mason family, she was sired by Procters
Major and sold for 3,400gns to Richard and Stacy
Speakman.
Top price of the day was 5,800gns for Pikestone Ragnar
exhibited by Carl Stephenson, this Gallaber Leo son sold
to Joe and Trevor Stoney for their Commercial herd based
near Pateley Bridge. The top price female came from
Garrowby farms with the cow Gunnerfleet Preloche and
her heifer calf at foot Garrowby Scaramouche, which sold
to Hannah Ormerod of the Limehill herd.
The North East club hosted their first club sale at
Darlington Auction, under judge Richard Priestley of
the Brontemoor herd, with 26 pedigree cattle forward,
Richard’s Champion was Longhirst Rendezvous from the
Jordon family, Morpeth. The two-year-old bull by Glenrock
Justthejob sold for 4,000gns to G & W Jackson of East
Howle. Messrs E Blenkhorn took the Reserve Champion
with Elderberry Rocket which sold to TT Hall &Son,
Evenwood.
Top price for this new club sale fell to club Chairman Karl
Suddes with Cornsay Sailor by Dylans Ironbru which sold
for 5,000gns to PR & V Barlow from Nottinghamshire.
At the end of May the club were involved with NBA Beef
Expo event with a herd visit to the Cornsay herd of WI
Suddes and Sons and then hosted the stand at the event
with cattle kindly supplied by F & R Simpson, Square
House Farm and J Hunter & Son, The Steel Farm and
cakes and biscuits kindly donated by club members.
Mid-June saw the return of herd visits, a trip to the
Jorica herd was kindly hosted by the Knaggs family,
here members were shown great cattle, for a newly
established herd and excellent hospitality.
At the beginning of July, we visited the Cornsay herd of
Chairman Karl Suddes, for those members who were
unable to attend the NBA Beef Expo trip. Members were
well looked after, with great hospitality and a trip round
the extra-large herd with some quality cattle on show.
The Great Yorkshire show once again returned as a
four-day event, with Limousin judging moving to the
Wednesday. Thanks go to our secretary Annabel Mason
for running the stand, with members kindly donating
large numbers of cakes, biscuits and sweet treats. On the
Wednesday night the club held a BBQ for exhibitors and
breeders which was greatly attended with 100 Limousin
steaks sold, these were kindly donated by Ralph Pearson
butchers, who donated the money for the steaks to
charity. The Champion Limousin was won by Whinfellpark
Marylyn from Jenkinson farms.
Members attended the 50 th Anniversary celebrations and
the club held their first Commercial herd competition,
with the winner from this and the Pedigree herd
competition qualifying for the national championship.
