Gateway to
Invigorating Growth
LNG Regasification Facilities
In just one year since the last annual
report, PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) has
embarked on the Liquefi ed Natural Gas (LNG)
Regasification Facilities project. The project is
a spin-off from the Company’s core business
of gas processing in the Company’s efforts to
explore new business opportunities.
Located within the vicinity of the Sungai
Udang Port area in Melaka, this engineering
marvel, slated to be completed in record time,
will soon become an energy gateway on one
of the world’s busiest shipping lanes – the
Straits of Malacca. Comprising three main
components, this will be Malaysia’s fi rst ever
LNG Regasification Facilities which will address
the country’s energy supply challenges.
The three main components of this state-of
the-art terminal are:
1. Two permanently berthed Floating Storage
Units (FSU)
2. One Jetty Regasifi cation Unit (JRU) which
is the world’s fi rst-of-its-kind island jetty
regasifi cation system connected to the
mainland via a sub-sea pipeline
3. Onshore pipeline which will connect with
PGB’s existing Peninsular Gas Utilisation
(PGU) pipeline network.
LNG imported from various sources
worldwide will be regasifi ed at this terminal.
The process entails that the LNG tankers
dock at the facility, transfer and store the
LNG into one of the two FSUs, and the
FSU then transfers the LNG to the JRU for
the liquids to be vapourised into its original
gas form. The gas then fl ows into the
3km-long sub-sea pipeline and resurfaces via
a dedicated onshore pipeline which travels
another 30 km across the state of Melaka
where it merges with the existing gas stream
fl owing through the PGU pipeline network.
It will be the much needed boost for the
ever-increasing demand for gas, from both
the power and non-power sector.

state-of the-art technology.
