Methodology 19,000 interviews are conducted in 18 countries of Latin America representative of<br />

more than 400 million inhabitants.<br />

Objectives To survey the public opinion concerning different domains in Latin American<br />

countries.<br />

The questionnaires used include questions of Free time activities such as watching<br />

TV, doing sports, volunteering, reading books or newspapers, being with friends or<br />

family, listening to music, going to the movies or going to a religious service or other<br />

type of community event.<br />

There are some questions regarding the uses of Internet to access information and<br />

for communication and working purposes.<br />

Socio-demographic variables:<br />

sex, age, number of persons in household, income, marital status, educational level,<br />

number of children, employment situation, languages spoken, religion, ethnicity.<br />

Other domains:<br />

attitudes toward democracy, civic participation and political engagement, lifestyle and<br />

values, social values and perception on country’s situation, Issues like the importance<br />

of family, abortion, homosexuality, discrimination against indigenous people and<br />

foreigners.<br />

Notes The survey is run every year.<br />

Methodology The UNHS 2009/10 was undertaken from May 2009 to April 2010 and covered about<br />

6,800 households selected countrywide.<br />

The questions were responded to by household members aged 18 years and above.<br />

Objectives The main objective of the survey was to collect high quality data on population and<br />

socio-economic characteristics of households for monitoring development<br />

performance.<br />

The Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS) 2009/10 collected information on<br />

personal characteristics of household members including information on age, sex,<br />

relationship to the head of the household and migration, amongst others.<br />

Notes The Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS) 2009/10 is the latest in a series of<br />

household surveys that started in 1989. The survey collected information on socioeconomic<br />

characteristics at both household and community levels as well as<br />

information on the informal sector. The UNHS 2009/10 comprised of six modules: the<br />

Socio-economic, Labour Force, Informal Sector, Community, Price and the<br />

Qualitative modules. One of the chapters of the socio-economic module is on Culture.<br />
