Goodw<strong>in</strong>‟s use <strong>of</strong> multi-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary practitioners <strong>for</strong> lectures and<br />

tutorship (typified <strong>in</strong> Postmodernist multi-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary <strong>studio</strong>s) <strong>for</strong>med <strong>the</strong><br />

core <strong>of</strong> this project as practitioners‟ personal histories, expertise and<br />

spatial <strong>in</strong>telligence were vital <strong>in</strong>gredients <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chimera project.<br />

Students speculated <strong>the</strong> scale, territory, and content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> territory <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ir choice and were <strong>the</strong>n required to express <strong>the</strong>ir vision through a<br />

physical mode, <strong>in</strong> this case: presentation. The presentations served as a<br />

tool to <strong>for</strong>m groups. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Goodw<strong>in</strong>, “Once <strong>the</strong> groups<br />

were decided <strong>the</strong> multi-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary process beg<strong>in</strong>s.”<br />

Follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> film screen<strong>in</strong>g with Neutral Film-makers Tapio and<br />

Christian, <strong>the</strong> students were encouraged to embrace filmic language.<br />

The brief was to <strong>for</strong>m groups to <strong>the</strong>n collectively produce a three-m<strong>in</strong>ute<br />

film to convey <strong>the</strong>ir projected strategy and encapsulate <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>design</strong><br />

concept.<br />

Facilitation: Small Cities /Big Neighbourhoods<br />

From <strong>the</strong> outset Pr<strong>of</strong>. Goodw<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>stilled a sense <strong>of</strong> community with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

students and focused on <strong>the</strong> social neighbourhood as a plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

ideas. To beg<strong>in</strong>, he gave a broad overview <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> small cities and big<br />

neighbourhoods, advocat<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong> mix <strong>of</strong> people, opportunities, sense<br />

<strong>of</strong> identity, and facilities are <strong>the</strong> most important aspects <strong>of</strong> any social<br />
