9.5.1 Recommendation 1: Integration Policy and Support Services<br />

9.5.1.1 Support<br />

In his book „Gods <strong>of</strong> Managements‟, Charles Handy 329 classified four<br />

types <strong>of</strong> management styles that he represented by Greek A<strong>the</strong>nian<br />

ancient gods named respectively: „Apollo; Zeus; A<strong>the</strong>na; and Dionysus‟.<br />

In his classification Handy described how each culture <strong>of</strong> work practice<br />

preferred to operate and <strong>the</strong> specific management style <strong>of</strong> each culture.<br />

The follow<strong>in</strong>g figure shows <strong>the</strong> different cultures<br />

On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, Geert H<strong>of</strong>stede 330 classified <strong>the</strong> cultures by<br />

dom<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g factors when he created his <strong>in</strong>dicators <strong>of</strong> power. These<br />

dom<strong>in</strong>ation factors measure to what extent each culture is dom<strong>in</strong>ated by<br />

<strong>the</strong> factors he proposed. The four major factors accord<strong>in</strong>g to H<strong>of</strong>stede<br />

are: power, uncerta<strong>in</strong>ty, mascul<strong>in</strong>ity, and <strong>in</strong>dividualism. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

Handy‟s classification <strong>of</strong> power <strong>of</strong> managements, H<strong>of</strong>stede‟s <strong>in</strong>dicators<br />

could be represented <strong>in</strong> relation to Handy‟s gods <strong>of</strong> management as<br />

shown <strong>in</strong> Figure 9.4.<br />
