R J Turk and S<strong>on</strong>s declined to engage in <strong>the</strong> 2000 study because <strong>the</strong> firm was in <strong>the</strong><br />

process <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fering <strong>the</strong> site for sale. No fewer than 14 applicati<strong>on</strong>s have been made<br />

since 1994 ei<strong>the</strong>r for c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> area c<strong>on</strong>sent to demolish buildings or for<br />

residential development.<br />

The new owners have obtained planning permissi<strong>on</strong> to erect two dwellings <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Thames</strong> Street fr<strong>on</strong>tage. They have submitted ano<strong>the</strong>r planning applicati<strong>on</strong> for a<br />

live/work unit and <strong>the</strong> retenti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> covered slipway to cater for boats up to 24<br />

metres l<strong>on</strong>g x 6 metres beam.<br />

Comments (2007)<br />

This yard is no l<strong>on</strong>ger used by R J Turk & S<strong>on</strong>s. There is some doubt as to whe<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>the</strong> new owners will make <strong>the</strong> covered slipway available for use or whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> l<strong>on</strong>g<br />

term intenti<strong>on</strong> is to secure residential development <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole site.<br />
