The majority <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> Ferry Quays redevelopment was completed a number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> years<br />

ago following approval for major development in 1999 and 2000. The overall site<br />

comprised 4.7 hectares (11.6 acres), located at <strong>the</strong> juncti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> Grand Uni<strong>on</strong> Canal<br />

and <strong>the</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>Thames</strong>, to <strong>the</strong> south <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> High Street, Brentford.<br />

Planning and envir<strong>on</strong>mental health issues:<br />

Lots Ait is included within <strong>the</strong> Brentford Town Centre SRB regenerati<strong>on</strong> area. Outline<br />

planning permissi<strong>on</strong> has recently been granted for a major mixed use redevelopment<br />

scheme <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> adjacent riverside land but including Lots Ait. Several boatyard<br />

elements are included in <strong>the</strong> redevelopment scheme. On Lots Ait was proposed to<br />

retain and refurbish <strong>the</strong> dry docks with a new building being c<strong>on</strong>structed over <strong>the</strong>m<br />

which would house a café bar and restaurant at first floor level, with <strong>the</strong> ground floor<br />

being used for boatyard related uses. A new footbridge would provide access to <strong>the</strong><br />

facilities from <strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn riverbank. This part <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> development has not been<br />

implemented and <strong>the</strong> site remains vacant.<br />
