middle of opercle. Blackish spot posterodorsal to<br />
orbit. Wide black bar obliquely anteriad across<br />
nape covering extrascapular series. Three dark<br />
brown vertical bars on side, bar 1 below anterior<br />
| of spinous dorsal fin, bar 2 below posterior part<br />
of spinous dorsal fin, bar 3 below middle of soft<br />
anal fin. Bars about uniformly pigmented to about<br />
middle of side, where gradually fainter to approximately<br />
horizontal level of dorsal pectoral<br />
fin base. Scattered dark brown blotches under<br />
adpressed pectoral fin. Dorsal fin blackish; soft<br />
portion dark greyish. Anal fin light basally, duskied<br />
distally.<br />
Young adult female 212 mm SL (NRM 19130)<br />
with dorsum and nape light brownish, light grey<br />

side; chest, abdomen, side adjacent to anal fin and<br />
underside of caudal peduncle pale yellowish.<br />
Lower jaw white. Side of head yellowish whitish,<br />
somewhat reflecting. Anterior side slightly slivery.<br />
Dorsum and upper side with numerous,<br />
indistinct small lighter spots.<br />
Dark brown band across nape, obliquely anteriad<br />
from dorsal margin of opercle, covering<br />
extrascapulars and some scales anterior to extrascapular<br />
series. Bars 1-2 brownish from dorsal fin<br />
base to about level of pectoral fin base, grading<br />
into a mottled pattern of scattered brown, silver<br />
ringed spots behind pectoral fin base. Bar 3 including<br />
darker irregular pigment subdorsally,<br />
including 3-4 silvery dots, ventrad greyish brown<br />
