margined by light curved bars anteriorly and<br />

posteriorly; caudal fin crossed by two light vertical<br />

bars. Pelvic fin whitish.<br />

Probable male 180 mm SL light brownish,<br />

lighter below. Dark band from snout tip to caudal<br />

fin base extremely faint; crossed by three obscure<br />

vertical bars (bars 1, 2, 3) from dorsum to horizontal<br />

level of lower margin of pectoral fin base.<br />

Posteriormost bar includes a blackish blotch at<br />

the upper end. About four irregular rows of small<br />

light spots along middle of side, reduced to two<br />

rows on caudal peduncle. Light spots also on<br />

head side, but not on nape. Spinous portion of<br />

dorsal fin greyish with about two rows of light<br />

spots; soft portion greyish with some light spots.<br />

Caudal fin with black blotch at base, above midaxis,<br />

almost completely encircled with light ring.<br />

Females 195-205 mm SL (Fig. 62) like 180 mm SL<br />

specimen, but no horizontal band; caudal ocellus<br />

almost complete. Three rows of yellow spots in<br />

dorsal fin.<br />

Holotype, adult male 340 mm SL (Fig. 63) with<br />

dorsum, snout, nape grey, side pale grey. Underside<br />

of head, chest ventrally, belly, anal-fin base<br />

and lower margin of caudal peduncle whitish.<br />

Small black ocellated spots in row behind orbit<br />

and on opercle, dark spot in opercular/subopercular<br />

junction. Dark bars 1-3 represented by three<br />

vertical rows of black blotches with white or<br />

silvery spots marking margins of blotches; along<br />

middle of side scattered white spots. Anterior<br />

row of black blotches below anterior dorsal spines<br />

including small blotch above upper lateral line,<br />

large blotch slightly below upper lateral line, and
