2 And he made tefillah to vuvh, and said, O vuvh, was<br />

not this what I said, when I was yet in my country?<br />

Therefore I fled before to Tarshish: for I knew that You<br />

are an El full of favor, and full of rachamim, slow to<br />

anger, and great in rachamim, and relenting from doing<br />

evil.<br />

3 Therefore now, O vuvh, I beg You, take my chayim<br />

from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.<br />

4 Then said vuvh, Do you have a right to be angry?<br />

5 So Yonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side<br />

of the city, and there made himself a sukkah, and sat<br />

under it in the shadow, until he might see what would<br />

become of the city.<br />

6 And vuvh Elohim prepared a plant, and made it to<br />

come up over Yonah, that it might be a shadow over his<br />

head, to deliver him from his grief. So Yonah was<br />

YONAH - JONAH<br />

exceedingly in gilah because of the plant.<br />

7 But Elohim prepared a worm when the morning rose<br />

the next day, and it attacked the plant that it withered.<br />

8 And it came to pass, when the sun did rise, that<br />

Elohim prepared a strong east wind; and the sun beat<br />

upon the head of Yonah, that he fainted, and wished to<br />

die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.<br />

9 And Elohim said to Yonah, Do you have a right to be<br />

angry because of the plant? And he said, I do have a<br />

right to be angry, even to my death.<br />

10 Then said vuvh, You have had pity on the plant, for<br />

which you have not labored, neither made it grow;<br />

which came up in a night, and perished in a night:<br />

11 And should not I spare Ninveh, that great city, where<br />

there are more than one hundred twenty thousand<br />

persons that cannot discern between their right hand<br />

and their left hand; and also many cattle? 3146
