Learning objectives<br />
After completing the 4 credits´ study, students will<br />
become familiar with the history, culture and economy of the Chinese-speaking areas including<br />
mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia.<br />
be capable of talking about the general features of the Chinese economic life<br />
be able to write clear PR and business documents using a Chinese word-processing program<br />
become aware of the styles and formats used in Chinese business documents<br />
be prepared to move on tasks involving trade with the Chinese-speaking areas<br />
Course contents<br />
The course is divided into two parts: Introduction to the Chinese-speaking Areas ( 华 语 地 区 简 介 )(2 cr)<br />
and Chinese Business Documents ( 汉 语 商 业 文 件 ) (2 cr). The course involves contact hours and weekly<br />
assignments.<br />
Introduction to the Chinese-speaking Areas:<br />
Introduction to the situations in different Chinese-speaking areas<br />
Economic life of the mainland China and overseas Chinese societies<br />
Chinese Business Documents:<br />
PR letters: invitations, thank you letters, apologies, congratulations, condolences<br />
Business letters: travel correspondence, travel agenda, confirmations, offer requests, offers,<br />
orders, powers of attorney<br />
CV compilation<br />
Cooperation with the business community and other organizations<br />
Finnish companies doing business in Chinese-speaking countries and Chinese companies in Finland.<br />
Teaching and learning methods<br />
The course consists of contact hours and assignments.<br />
Introduction to the Chinese-speaking Areas (2 cr):<br />
This part covers 53 hours of study, including contact hours and independent study. This part lasts one<br />
period.<br />
Contact hours 24 h (3 h/week)<br />
Written examination 2 h (at end of the period)<br />
Oral presentation, independent study, exercises and preparation for exam 23 h<br />
Chinese Business Documents (2 cr):<br />
This part covers 53 hours of study, including contact hours and independent study. This part lasts one<br />
period.<br />
Contact hours 24 h (3 h/week)
