(1996) ont montré que L. <strong>terre</strong>stris et A.caliginosa consomment préférentiellement un mélange <strong>de</strong> particu<strong>les</strong> minéra<strong>les</strong> fines et <strong>de</strong>matière organique plutôt que <strong>de</strong> la matière organique seule. Les champignons constituentégalement une importante source <strong>de</strong> nourriture pour beaucoup d’espèces <strong>de</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong>(Edwards et Fletchet, 1988). Les organismesayant <strong>sur</strong>vécu (<strong>sur</strong>tout <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> spores <strong>de</strong> champignons, <strong>de</strong> protozoaires et <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> bactériesrésistantes) constituent l’inoculum qui colonisera le turricule par la suite et orientera <strong>les</strong>processus microbiens (Brown, 1995). Parle et al. (1963a) montrent un enrichissement <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong>turricu<strong>les</strong> en bactéries et en actinomycètes dans <strong>les</strong> déjections <strong>de</strong> L. <strong>terre</strong>stris dû au passagedu sol dans l’intestin qui crée <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> conditions favorab<strong>les</strong> à leur développement. De plus, cetauteur indique un développement d’hyphes <strong>de</strong> champignons à la <strong>sur</strong>face <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> déjections (Parle,1963b), phénomènes également observés chez un <strong>ver</strong> endogé, Pontoscolex corethrurus(Barois, 1987). Si <strong>de</strong> nombreux travaux démontrent l’effet <strong>de</strong> stimulation <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> <strong>sur</strong>l’activité microbienne <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> sols, à l’in<strong>ver</strong>se l’ingestion du sol par <strong>les</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> endogés peutconduire à la diminution <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> populations bactériennes et fongiques (Kristufek et al., 1992).D’autre part, <strong>les</strong> activités enzymatiques peuvent donner <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> informations <strong>sur</strong> lefonctionnement <strong>de</strong> la communauté microbienne. Tiwari et al. (1989) indiquent que <strong>les</strong>activités phosphatase, déshydrogénase, et uréase sont plus intenses dans <strong>les</strong> turricu<strong>les</strong>. Uneforte activité phosphatase a aussi été trouvée dans <strong>les</strong> turricu<strong>les</strong> frais du <strong>ver</strong>s endogé A.caliginosa. Ces activités enzymatiques peuvent agir <strong>sur</strong> la biodisponibilité <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> élémentsminéraux tels que le phosphore (Satchell et Martin, 1984).IV.3 Ver <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> et métaux <strong>lourds</strong>Les <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> sont plus sensib<strong>les</strong> aux teneurs en métaux <strong>lourds</strong> que <strong>les</strong> autresin<strong>ver</strong>tébrés dans le sol (Bengtsson et al., 1992) et leur capacité à accumuler <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> métaux <strong>lourds</strong>souvent plus élevée que pour d’autres espèces anima<strong>les</strong> (Beyer et al., 1982). Cependant, <strong>les</strong>métaux <strong>lourds</strong> ont <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> effets variab<strong>les</strong> en fonction <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> espèces, du sta<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> développement, dumo<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> vie (lieu <strong>de</strong> vie et régime alimentaire) et <strong>de</strong> leur capacité d’adaptation face à la27

Ces effets varient également suivant la nature du métal, sa forme chimique et <strong>les</strong>propriétés du sol.L’augmentation <strong>de</strong> la teneur en métaux <strong>lourds</strong> au <strong>de</strong>là d’un certain seuil réduit la <strong>de</strong>nsité<strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s (Pizl et Josen, 1995) et influe négativement <strong>sur</strong> leur croissance pondérale, leurdéveloppement sexuel et la production <strong>de</strong> cocons (Spurgeon et Hopkin, 1996, 1999).Spurgeon et al. (2000) ont observé une réduction significative du taux <strong>de</strong> <strong>sur</strong>vie <strong>de</strong> 4 espèces<strong>de</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> pour <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> concentrations en zinc comprises entre 2000 – 3600 ppm. De plus,ils ont noté <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> pertes significatives <strong>de</strong> poids à partir <strong>de</strong> 1200 – 2000 ppm <strong>de</strong> zinc. Parailleurs, Depta et al. (1999) indiquent que l’un <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> mécanismes potentiels d’adaptation <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong><strong>ver</strong>s à la pollution est l’évitement. Les <strong>ver</strong>s, placés en sols pollués, seraient ainsi en me<strong>sur</strong>e <strong>de</strong>différencier la matière organique selon son niveau <strong>de</strong> contamination.tel-00486649, <strong>ver</strong>sion 1 - 26 May 2010La capacité d’accumulation <strong>de</strong> métaux <strong>lourds</strong> <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s (étudiée <strong>sur</strong> quelques espèces) aété reconnue dans la littérature dès la fin du 19 ème siècle (Hopkin, 1989). Chez <strong>les</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong><strong>terre</strong>, <strong>les</strong> métaux <strong>lourds</strong> s’accumulent notamment dans <strong>les</strong> tissus digestifs soit par voie oraleaprès leur ingestion, soit par voie cutanée chez <strong>les</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> n’ayant pas <strong>de</strong> cuticuleprotectrice et vivant en contact permanent avec le sol. De nombreuses étu<strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> ont permisd’i<strong>de</strong>ntifier <strong>les</strong> paramètres dont dépend ce processus <strong>de</strong> bioconcentration (i) l’espèce <strong>de</strong> <strong>ver</strong> etsa catégorie écologique, (ii) le type <strong>de</strong> métal et sa spéciation, (iii) <strong>les</strong> propriétés physiques etchimiques du sol, (iv) la saison et (v) quand il s’agit d’une pollution diffuse, la distance à lasource <strong>de</strong> contamination. Ainsi, <strong>les</strong> métaux <strong>lourds</strong> complexes sont moins disponib<strong>les</strong> pour le<strong>ver</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> (Hartenstein et Hartenstein, 1981). Enfin, l’étu<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> l’accumulation <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> métaux<strong>lourds</strong> dans <strong>les</strong> tissus <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s pourrait être un bon bioindicateur <strong>de</strong> disponibilité <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> métaux<strong>lourds</strong> dans le sol (Lanno et Mc carty, 1997 ; Con<strong>de</strong>r et Lanno, 2000 ; Con<strong>de</strong>r et al., 2001 ;Oste et al., 2001).Par ailleurs, quelques étu<strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> traitent également <strong>de</strong> l’impact <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> eux-mêmeset <strong>de</strong> leurs activités <strong>sur</strong> la dynamique <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> métaux <strong>lourds</strong> dans le sol tels que la solubilité,l’extractibilité, la biodisponibilité (Wen et al., 2004 ; Devliergher et Verstraete, 1997). Ainsi,la présence du <strong>ver</strong>s <strong>de</strong> <strong>terre</strong> L. <strong>terre</strong>stris augmente la disponibilité du cuivre <strong>de</strong> 6%(Devliergher et Verstraete, 1995). Cependant, on considère que le rôle <strong>de</strong> ces organismes dansla biodisponibilité <strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> métaux <strong>lourds</strong> pour <strong>les</strong> <strong>plante</strong>s est très mo<strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong>te dans <strong>les</strong> sitescontaminés (Abdul rida, 1996).28
