PROJETO RADAMBRASIL

The area under study is located in the Northern region of
the country, corresponding in the International World Map
to the Millionth to Sheet NA.21 Tumucumaque and part of
Sheet NB.21. It is mostly represented by lands in the State
of Pare and small parts of the Federal Territories of Roraima
and Amapä and the State of Amazonas. It is limited in
the South by the equator, in the North by the Republic of
Guiana, Surinam and French Guiana, and by the meridians
54°00' and 60°00'W, covering an area of about 148,550 sq
km.
This report provides information about geomorphology,
climate, geology, lithology, vegetation, the methodology
employed in the survey, and criteria of the classification of
soils;
The survey is at an exploratory level and the following
types of soils were identified: Distrophie Yellow Latosol,

Distrophie Red-Yellow Latosol, Distrophie Dark Red Latosol,
Eutrophic Dusky Red Latosol, Red-Yellow Podzolic.
Distrophie Undifberentiated Concretionary Lateritic Soil,
Distrophie Quartz Sand, Distrophie Ground Water Laterite,
Distrophie Hydromorphic Gleyzed Soil, Eutrophic and Distrophie
Alluvial, Distrophie Lithosol and Eutrophic Planosol.
Data are also provided about the present use of agriculture,
cattle raising, and plant extractive activities, as
well as an evaluation of the agricultural suitability of soils
under the systems of primitive and advanced management
(non-irrigated).
Two maps are enclosed, in the scale of 1:1,000,000, which
are the exploratory map of soils and the map of agricultural
suitability of soils.
