sense has been the emergence <strong>of</strong> some classes about the modern Turkish<br />

dialects and literatures.<br />

Today, the fact that the state authorities support the efforts <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Faculties <strong>of</strong> Education in appropriation <strong>of</strong> “teaching pr<strong>of</strong>ession”, has left<br />

the graduates <strong>of</strong> Turkish Language and Literature departments (who<br />

receive a very shallow education) in a very difficult situation. But it will<br />

be the Turkology, rather than some persons, which will suffer from the<br />

consequent losses there<strong>of</strong>. Because, those who head for this branch <strong>of</strong><br />

science will be unqualified and non-skilled for the education they will<br />

receive.<br />

What needs to be done is to expand the fields <strong>of</strong> interest <strong>of</strong> Turkish<br />

Language and Literature Departments, and to train real experts <strong>of</strong><br />

Turkology. It is possible at least in the universities in big cities. And the<br />

same can be achieved in the other universities by making use <strong>of</strong> the<br />

FARABI Programme. Or, a pre-condition, such as taking part in an<br />

ERASMUS Programme, can be set, so that these departments can train<br />

really qualified experts <strong>of</strong> Turkology. Student Exchange Programmes<br />

between the Turkish Republics and the related communities can be made<br />

more functional to ensure that all “Turkology” candidate-experts take part<br />

in, which will help the students to learn at least two more languages in<br />

addition to the Turkish languages spoken in Azerbaijan and Turkey. But<br />

even these efforts are not sufficient. Most subjects taught in History and<br />

International Relations departments are <strong>of</strong> significant importance for the<br />

Turkology. A graduate with this type <strong>of</strong> certificates will not be forced to<br />

become a teacher, but will be able to find a job in the international<br />

organizations, in the foreign affairs positions, in the media, and in all<br />

kinds <strong>of</strong> organizations engaged in cultural and ethnographic activities.<br />

“Turkology” experts trained to be citizens <strong>of</strong> the world, would be among<br />

the most wanted staff in international commerce, and would establish<br />

their own business.<br />

As a natural result <strong>of</strong> these developments, the Turkology will soon<br />

change into a field, which people, who are more skilled than their peers,<br />

prefer.<br />
