About the Student
Claire Shan ( 单 乙 丰 ), a junior, has been learning Chinese at Emma Willard School for a bit more
than 2 years. This piece was written at the beginning of the spring semester. Claire has three
Chinese III classes per week. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing and listening to music.
Assignment Guidelines (Instructor: Guangyu Hao 郝 广 瑜 )
Students were assigned to handwrite a greeting conversation that takes place at the airport where
Wang Peng's parents are picking up him and his friend Li You, who are the main characters in the
textbook. As an informal writing practice, the purpose of this assignment was to pre-assess
students' understanding of conversational language in the context of the airport and to develop
their socio-communicative skills and cultural competence. Students were given 50 minutes to
complete this homework.
