Hlenka, miliardu let starý jednobuněčný organismus, stojí na
samých prapočátcích evoluce. I přes to se o ní (i od ní) máme
stále co učit.
Francouzský dokumentarista Jacques Mitsch popisuje za pomoci
vědkyně Audrey Dussutour a jejích kolegů z celého světa prapodivný
a neobyčejně houževnatý organismus. Hlenky jsou sice jednobuněčné
a postrádají nervový systém, ani to jim ale nebrání v plíživém
pohybu za potravou. Projevují známky inteligence a existenci jim
ulehčuje časová i prostorová paměť. Dokáží se dokonce strategicky
rozhodnout, kterým směrem expandovat. Co se stane, když do
labyrintu s potravou postavíte místo laboratorní myši miliardu let
starou hlenku?
The blob, a billion-year-old unicellular organism, goes back to the
very origin of evolution. However aged, surprises lurk behind every
corner which expands our understanding about simple organisms.
With the help of scientist Audrey Dussutour and her colleagues
from around the world, French documentarist Jacques Mitsch describes
the uncanny and unusually persistent organism. Blobs are
unicellular and do not have a nervous system, but that does not stop
them from creeping toward food. They show signs of intelligence
and their time and space memory makes life easier. They can even
make strategic decisions about the direction of their expanse. What
happens when a billion-year-old blob is put inside of a labyrinth?
