Welterbe Zeche und Kokerei Zollverein
Das Wahrzeichen
der Metropole Ruhr
Sie war die modernste, größte und
schönste Zeche der Welt: Zollverein
XII stand bis zu ihrer Stilllegung
für Spitzenleistungen im europäischen
Bergbau. Heute ist sie mit
der ehemaligen Kokerei und der
Schachtanlage 1/2/8 UNESCO-Welterbe.
Wo einst 12.000 Tagestonnen
Kohle gefördert, aufbereitet und zu
Koks veredelt wurden, wächst
heute ein moderner Standort für
Kultur und Kreativwirtschaft, der
seinen Gästen viele Attraktionen
bietet: Bei einer Führung auf dem
neuen »Denkmalpfad« folgen die
Besucher dem »Weg der Kohle«
und tauchen ein in eine vergangene
Welt. Animationen lassen
gigantische Maschinen lebendig
werden, Arbeiter berichten aus
ihrem Alltag. Fortsetzung folgt auf
der Kokerei, wenn Gästeführer die
eindrucksvollen Anlagen der Koksproduktion
zeigen. Die weltweit
größte Ausstellung zeitgenössischen
Designs zeigt das red dot
design museum im eindrucksvoll
umgebauten ehemaligen Kesselhaus.

ungewöhnliche montanhistorische
Sammlung bietet der »Kunstschacht
Zollverein«, und die Raum-
skulpturen »Palast der Projekte«
und »LA PRIMAVERA« entführen in
eine Welt der Utopien und Träume.
Erholung und Entspannung bieten
Sonnenrad, Zollverein Park, die Eisbahn
im Winter und das Werksschwimmbad
im Sommer.
The symbol of the
Ruhr metropolitan area
Zollverein XII was once the most upto-date,
largest and most beautiful
colliery in the world – until its closure
it was a symbol of the highest
mining output in Europe. Nowadays
it is a UNESCO world heritage site,
along with the old coking plant and
shaft site 1/2/8. Twelve thousand
tons of coal per day were once
brought to the surface here to be
processed into coke: today it is an
up-to-date and growing production
site for culture and the creative economy,
offering guests a great many
attractions. On a guided tour along
the new ”Zollverein monument
path“ visitors can follow the ”path
of coal“ and immerse themselves in
a long forgotten world. Gigantic
machines spring to life in animations
and workers talk about their
everyday lives. The tour continues at
the coking plant where guides take
their visitors on a round tour of the
imposing old production site. The
world’s largest exhibition of contemporary
design can be found in
the red dot design museum, housed
in the impressively redesigned boiler
house. Art objects and an unusual
historic collection of mining exhibits
are offered at the ”Kunstschacht
Zollverein“; and the two indoor installations,
the ”Palace of Projects“
and ”LA PRIMAVERA“ draw visitors
into a world of utopias and dreams.
