LVR-Industriemuseum
Museum der Schwerindustrie
Die Zinkfabrik Altenberg ist
eine der wenigen vollständig
erhaltenen Fabrikanlagen der
Gründerzeit im Ruhrgebiet. Nach
ihrer Schließung im Jahre 1981
übernahm der Landschaftsverband
Rheinland 1984 die Bauten
der Fabrik und richtete dort
den Hauptsitz des LVR-Industriemuseums
ein. Seit 1997 wird
in der Dauerausstellung
»Schwer.Industrie« auf 3500 qm
Ausstellungsfläche die 150-jährige
Geschichte der Eisen- und Stahlindustrie
an Rhein und Ruhr
gezeigt. Tonnenschwere Kolosse
wie beispielsweise Kokillen, Walzen,
ein 10 Meter hoher und 53
Tonnen schwerer Dampfhammer
oder eine Dampflokomotive vermitteln
dem Besucher nachhaltige
Eindrücke auf einer staunenswerten
Zeitreise durch die Entwicklung
der Schwerindustrie. Die 250
Jahre alte Geschichte der ersten
Eisenhütte des Ruhrgebiets erzählt
das LVR-Industriemuseum in der
St. Antony-Hütte in Oberhausen-
Osterfeld (Di – So 10:00 – 17:00).
The Museum of Heavy Industry
The Altenberg zinc factory is one
of the few completely preserved
factory sites dating back to the
early industrial period of the Ruhrgebiet.
After it was shut down in
1981 the factory buildings were
taken over by the local authority
(the Landschaftsverband Rheinland)
in 1984 and turned into the
headquarters of the LVR Industrial
Museum. The museum opened in
1997 and visitors can now enjoy a
permanent exhibition on “Heavy
Industry” covering an area of 3,500
square metres and showing the 150
year-old history of the iron and steel
industry in the Rhine and Ruhr area.
Gigantic objects like ingot moulds,
mill rollers, a ten metre high, 53 ton
steam hammer and a steam locomotive
leave a lasting impression
on visitors as they travel back in
time to witness the development
of heavy industry. Visitors can learn
all about the 250-year-old history
of the first ironworks in the Ruhrgebiet
at the LVR Industrial Museum
in the St. Antony Ironworks in the
Oberhausen district of Osterfeld
(Tue – Sun: 10:00 – 17:00).
