Schiffshebewerk Henrichenburg
Aufzug für schwimmende Riesen
Die Menge jubelte, als Kaiser
Wilhelm am 11. August 1899 das
Schiffshebewerk Henrichenburg
einweihte. Noch über 100 Jahre
später sind die Besucher begeistert
von diesem größten Bauwerk
am Dortmund-Ems-Kanal.
Der gigantische Aufzug liegt seit
über 30 Jahren still. Im Industriemuseum
wird die Geschichte des
Hebewerks und der Menschen
am Kanal wieder lebendig. Von
den beiden Oberhaupttürmen aus
genießen Besucher einen fantastischen
Blick auf die Stahlkonstruktion
und die weite Kanallandschaft
bei Waltrop. Einzigartig
ist die Sammlung schwimmender
Arbeitsgeräte und historischer
Schiffe. An Bord erfährt man,
wie eine typische Binnenschifferfamilie
vor 50 Jahren gearbeitet
und gelebt hat. Mehrmals am Tag
legt ein Ausflugsdampfer vom
Museumskai ab.

A lift for gigantic floating objects
The crowds roared in jubilation
when Kaiser Wilhelm officially opened
the Henrichenburg ship lift
on the 11th of August 1899. Over
a century later visitors react with
equal enthusiasm to the largest
construction on the Dortmund-Ems
canal. The gigantic lift has lain still
for over 30 years. The industrial
museum brings back to life the
history of the ship lift and the
people who worked on the canals.
From the top of the two towers
on the ship lift visitors can enjoy a
fantastic view of the steel construction
and the topography of canals
around Waltrop. The collection of
floating equipment and historic
boats is unique. On board one of
the barges guests can experience
the living and working conditions
of a typical waterways family over
50 years ago. A pleasure steamer
departs on excursions from the
museum quay several times a day.
