Kokerei Hansa
Vom Koks zur Kultur
Die Zentralkokerei Hansa ist die
letzte erhaltene von 17 Kokereien,
die während des Rationalisierungsschubs
in den 1920er Jahren
entstanden. Als Zentralkokerei
war sie Teil eines Produktionsverbundes
von Bergwerk, Kokerei
und Hüttenwerk. 1992 stillgelegt,
befindet sich Hansa heute in der
Obhut der Stiftung Industriedenkmalpflege
und Geschichtskultur.
Als »begehbare Großskulptur«
gewährt die Anlage ungewöhnliche
Einblicke in eine vergangene
Industrieepoche und eine sich
ständig wandelnde Industrienatur.
Ein Erlebnispfad führt die
Besucher u. a. zu der imposanten
Kompressorenhalle mit ihren
riesigen Maschinen und auf den
Kohlenturm, der einen faszinierenden
Panoramablick auf Dortmund
bietet.

From coke to culture
The Hansa Coking Plant is the last
of the 17 coking plants which were
built during the rationalisation
boom in the 1920s. As a central
plant it was part of an integrated
system with the nearby colliery
and steelworks. It was closed
down in 1992 and taken over by
the Foundation for the Preservation
of Industrial Monuments and
Historical Culture. Visitors can walk
around this “gigantic sculpture”
and gain an unusual insight into
a bygone industrial epoch and the
ever-changing flora and fauna
which have sprung up here. An
adventure trail leads visitors to the
imposing compressor house with its
huge engines, and to the coal tower
from which there is a fascinating
panorama view of Dortmund.
