This project, a joint venture of four African and one German institution, is one of 'research<br />
consolidation' and should capitalize on the results obtained in the first phase, deepen understanding<br />
of key socio-cultural and economic issues related to wildlife and further build the<br />
capacities of students, especially the involved five PhD students. Besides the finalisation of<br />
their theses, PhD students will be offered language courses, as well as training to enhance<br />
soft skills such as report and grant proposal writing. They will also be involved in teaching,<br />
such as field schools on bushmeat and livelihoods, targeting BSc and MSc students.<br />
Furthermore, the applicants intend to increase academic networking through increased presence<br />
at international conferences, presenting results from the project. In addition, through<br />
continued active involvement of stakeholders at all levels the applicants also intend to contribute<br />
to processes of establishment of communal wildlife management areas in the region.<br />
