7) Establish a special needs ministry task force which will develop a strategic plan for the development of training methods that will aid congregations in ministering to special needs children, youth and their families. The task force has been established with 5 members along with myself, seeking to determine both the critical needs and availability of resources in this area. Additionally my work in this first year of this ministry has resulted in the reestablishment of an annual DCE Conference, a partnership between Concordia University and the district for The Summit, a 5 th & 6 th grade event now held on campus in Irvine, support and guidance for the High School and Jr. High District Youth Gatherings as well as the Youth Committee, and support for congregations and DCE’s involved in call processes. Pacific Southwest District Youth Committee Report from Karl Fink, Chairperson And Dr. Dave Rueter, DCE, Family and Youth Facilitator The purposes of the PSW Youth Committee are to: • provide planning and leadership for District youth events and training, • provide an avenue for youth elected to District LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship) positions to be involved in leadership experiences. The Committee meets three times a year, usually in January, April, and September. The Committee membership includes six high school youth, selected to District LYF positions at the District Senior High Youth Gathering; a chairperson; and seven to nine project directors, regional representatives and coordinators. Project Directors serve as committee chair for District youth activities. The current Committee membership is listed below.
