NOMINATIONS - 01
To Change the Nomination Procedure for
District President
WHEREAS, the Bylaws of the Pacific
Southwest District state, “All candidates for
the office of District President on the ballot
must have received a minimum of ten
nominations”; and
WHEREAS, approximately ten percent of
district congregations have made nominations
for District President resulting in either no
election at the district convention or two
candidates be presented for election; and
WHEREAS, the congregations of the Pacific
Southwest District are not familiar with the
ordained clergy who are eligible for the
District President’s office; and
WHEREAS, this lack of knowledge of the
ordained clergy may result in qualified clergy
not receiving sufficient nominations for
election at the district convention; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, that Bylaw 1.4112 be changed
to read as follows, “At least four candidates
receiving the highest total number of
nominations who are willing to serve if
elected shall be on the ballot for District
President”; and be it further
RESOLVED, that Bylaw 1.4113 be changed
to read as follows, “In the case of ties of
nominations for the office of District
President all nominated candidates shall
remain on the ballot so that there will be at
least four candidates”; and be it finally

“all”.

To Change the process for electing the
District President
WHEREAS, the current bylaws of the
District require candidates running for the
office of District President to receive
nominations from a minimum of ten (10)
congregations of District (Bylaw 1.4112); and
WHEREAS, requiring a minimum of ten (10)
nominations can result in either no election at
the district convention as congregations of the
Pacific Southwest District, not familiar with
clergy eligible for the office of District
President tend to nominate no one for the
office; be it
RESOLVED, that the Bylaws regarding the
election of the District President be changed
in such a way as to allow the District
Convention to consider for the office of
District President the four candidates
receiving the highest total number of
nominations who are willing to serve if
elected.
