NOMINATIONS - 01<br />
To Change the Nomination Procedure for<br />
District President<br />
WHEREAS, the Bylaws of the Pacific<br />
Southwest District state, “All candidates for<br />
the office of District President on the ballot<br />
must have received a minimum of ten<br />
nominations”; and<br />
WHEREAS, approximately ten percent of<br />
district congregations have made nominations<br />
for District President resulting in either no<br />
election at the district convention or two<br />
candidates be presented for election; and<br />
WHEREAS, the congregations of the Pacific<br />
Southwest District are not familiar with the<br />
ordained clergy who are eligible for the<br />
District President’s office; and<br />
WHEREAS, this lack of knowledge of the<br />
ordained clergy may result in qualified clergy<br />
not receiving sufficient nominations for<br />
election at the district convention; therefore<br />
be it<br />
RESOLVED, that Bylaw 1.4112 be changed<br />
to read as follows, “At least four candidates<br />
receiving the highest total number of<br />
nominations who are willing to serve if<br />
elected shall be on the ballot for District<br />
President”; and be it further<br />
RESOLVED, that Bylaw 1.4113 be changed<br />
to read as follows, “In the case of ties of<br />
nominations for the office of District<br />
President all nominated candidates shall<br />
remain on the ballot so that there will be at<br />
least four candidates”; and be it finally<br />

To Change the process for electing the<br />
District President<br />
WHEREAS, the current bylaws of the<br />
District require candidates running for the<br />
office of District President to receive<br />
nominations from a minimum of ten (10)<br />
congregations of District (Bylaw 1.4112); and<br />
WHEREAS, requiring a minimum of ten (10)<br />
nominations can result in either no election at<br />
the district convention as congregations of the<br />
Pacific Southwest District, not familiar with<br />
clergy eligible for the office of District<br />
President tend to nominate no one for the<br />
office; be it<br />
RESOLVED, that the Bylaws regarding the<br />
election of the District President be changed<br />
in such a way as to allow the District<br />
<strong>Convention</strong> to consider for the office of<br />
District President the four candidates<br />
receiving the highest total number of<br />
nominations who are willing to serve if<br />
elected.<br />
