My Vision for the ministry of the University: Concordia University Irvine exemplifies Christcentered
learning and leadership. The University has an extraordinary opportunity to witness to
the thousands of students and families connected to the campus(es). That Christian witness is
essential in both its courses and activities. Concordia has done an exceptional job in developing
relationships with the local business community. It's a model which may be applied to other
professions, as we prepare Christian leaders in numerous vocations. There is also value in better
engaging congregations with the ministry (on-campus) and resources (off-campus) of the
University, I am proud to be an alumnus of Concordia, and would be privileged to help influence
its future.
Rev. Matthew Jennings
Home Congregation: Good Shepherd Lutheran, Yucca Valley, CA
Occupation: Pastor
Experience Pertinent to Position: I am a graduate of CUI (1994) with a degree
in Liberal Arts. I taught junior high school for 10 years before heading to St.
Louis for seminary. I am currently involved in Youth ministry from junior high
to college age kinds in my parish and circuit. My love for education and
teaching hasn’t changed since becoming a pastor. It would be great to have a
connection to the college from the High Desert/Inland Empire.
My Vision for the ministry of the University: It would be great to see more professional church
workers come out of CUI and serve our Lord as teachers, pastors and DCE’s. I believe that a quality
Christian-Lutheran education is key in preparing all for the mission field, whether they become
professional church workers or not.
