To Remove University Lutheran Chapel-
UCLA From the PSW District’s List of
Properties For Sale
WHEREAS, the Pacific Southwest District
Board of Directors, at its January 11, 2012
meeting, decided to lace all seventeen (17) of
the district’s real estate holdings for potential
sale in order to offset $6 million of district
indebtedness, and
WHEREAS, University Lutheran Chapel at
UCLA is included among those 17 properties,
and
WHEREAS, this property currently houses an
active and viable congregation engaged in full
ministry and mission to the UCLA campus
community, and
WHEREAS, PSW District By-lay 2.38 states
that the Board of Directors is “accountable to
the District Convention for all its
transactions” and “any decision of the board
may be appealed to the District Convention”;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the PSW District remove
University Lutheran Chapel – UCLA from its
list of properties available for sale for a period
of 3 years; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the PSW District Board of
Directors work together with University
Lutheran Chapel – UCLA to devise a plan by
which the congregation can remain on its
property; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors
report to the 2015 district convention the
results of this plan; and be it finally

To Protect District Campus Properties
From Sale
WHEREAS, the Pacific Southwest District
Board of Directors, at its January 11, 2012
meeting, decided to place all seventeen (17) of
the district’s real estate holdings for potential
sale in order to offset $6 million of district
indebtedness, and
WHEREAS, included among these 17
properties are three campus congregations at
University of California - San Diego (UCSD),
University of California - Los Angeles
(UCLA), and Arizona State University –
Phoenix (ASU), and
WHEREAS, “brick and mortar”
congregations provide a physical outpost and
center for campus mission and ministry and a
sanctuary for college students facing an
increasingly secular environment hostile to
Christianity; and
WHEREAS, these campus properties are
home to congregations who serve their
respective campus communities, including a
growing population of international students,
and
WHEREAS, the sale of these properties
would signal the retreat of a significant
Lutheran presence at these campuses; and
