To Support The Campus Ministries Of The
Pacific Southwest District
WHEREAS, our district currently owns and
operates at different levels three campus
ministries, namely, Alleluia Lutheran
Church/Student Ministry at Arizona State
University – Tempe, AZ; University Lutheran
Church at University of California San Diego
– La Jolla, CA; and University Lutheran
Chapel at University of California Los
Angeles – Los Angeles, CA; and
WHEREAS, thousands of students at these
universities have been and continue to be
impacted by these campus ministries; and
WHEREAS, we currently have a physical
presence at each of these three universities;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Pacific Southwest
District find ways to financially support the
ministry at each of these campus ministries;
and be it further
RESOLVED, that district congregations be
encouraged to put these campus ministries in
their annual budgets; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the district find ways to
creatively support new ways for ministry to
happen in our already existing facilities; and
be it finally
RESOLVED, that every effort be used to
keep these physical properties from being
sold.

To Protect District Property Being Sold
for Ministry and Mission
WHEREAS, the Pacific Southwest District
has become “encumbered with a debt of
nearly $8 Million” (Budget Report Pacific
Southwest District January 2012); and
WHEREAS, this same report indicates that
the Board of Directors has decided to sell off
at least $6 Million in property in order to
reduce the debt to $2 Million; and
WHEREAS, this decision does not save any
of the proceeds of the sales for mission and
ministry in our district; and
WHEREAS, in the past the District’s Board
of Directors had a policy to prevent the
cannibalization of district owned property;
and
WHEREAS, the budget for the year of 2012
is being balanced by a line item of $336,919
from the sale of property yet to be sold; and
WHEREAS, this policy stated that one third
of the proceeds of the sale would be available
to mission churches for 0% interest loans, and
one third of the proceeds would be used to
pay down district debt, and one third of the
proceeds would be used to fund missions as
the discretion of the Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, this policy was set aside until the
debt of the Pacific Southwest District is $2
Million; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Pacific Southwest
District in convention reaffirm and set the
policy that the proceeds from the sale of
district owned property be set aside so that
one third of the proceeds would be made
available to mission congregations for a loan
at 0% interest, one third of the proceeds be
used to pay down district incurred debt, and
