My Vision for the ministry of the PSW: To herald the great cries of the Reformation (Sola’s) in a
relevant & respectful fashion to a new generation & seek ways to strengthen support & solidarity
among PSW congregations in the peace & love that are only in Christ Jesus our living Lord & Savior.
Beverly Tietjen
Home Congregation: Our Savior Lutheran, Westchester, CA
finishing first 3 year term.
My Vision for the ministry of the PSW: My vision for the District is to
continue carrying out the Great Commission of bringing the Gospel to the many cultures
and ethnicities of the Pacific Southwest and helping the District to make wise use of the financial
resources available to accomplish this task.
Board of Directors Lay Member Region 2
Sharon Mather
Home Congregation: First Lutheran, Long Beach, CA
Occupation: Executive Assistant
Experience Pertinent to Position: I was a lay delegate at the PSD Convention in 2006
and will be again for 2012. I also served as a lay delegate to the 2010 Synodical
Convention in Houston. Within my parish I have chaired the Stewardship Board, the
Finance Board, and the Endowment Fund Committee, and have been a member of the
Constitution Revision Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Pastor Performance Review
Committee, Currently I serve as President of the Congregation, and I was instrumental in our transition
to Policy-Based Governance two-and-a-half years ago. Over the years I have been a member of eight
different LCMS congregations, primarily due to the fact that I have moved frequently. This has given me
exposure to different styles of worship, leadership, and governance within our churches. As a Wyneken
descendant, I have grown up with quite a few pastors in my family, so I have always felt a close
connection to our synod and congregational life. Yet, I acknowledge that all of this is worthless
compared to the "surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord." (Phil. 3:8) My greatest
qualification is the fact that I am a humble sinner, grateful to have received forgiveness ' and salvation
through Christ.
My Vision for the ministry of the PSW: I would like to see the PSD continue to effectively
resource congregations and schools to fulfill the Great Commission, The direction and decisions of the
District need to be guided by a desire to bring Christ and His unchanging message to people in a way
that is culturally relevant, sensitive to needs, and appropriate for the time and place in which we live.
