Resolution re: To Support the Campus
Ministries
District
of the Pacific Southwest
WHEREAS, our district currently owns and
operates at different levels three campus
ministries, namely, Alleluia Lutheran
Church/Student Ministry at Arizona State
University – Tempe, AZ, University Lutheran
Church at University of California San Diego
– La Jolla, CA, and University Lutheran
Chapel at University of California Los
Angeles – Los Angeles, CA; and
WHEREAS, at least University Lutheran
Chapel at UCLA was purchased and paid for
by money from Synod and at a later point was
deeded over to the District for the work of
ministry on the campus of UCLA; and
WHEREAS, thousands of students at these
universities have been and continue to be
impacted by these campus ministries; and
WHEREAS, we currently have a physical
presence at each of these three universities;
and
WHEREAS, the physical presence of both a
mission-minded Pastor and a physical building

really matter to mission work on and around
the campuses; and
WHEREAS, campus ministries, by their
nature will rarely become fully self-supporting
congregations; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Pacific Southwest
District find ways to financially support the
ministry at each of these campus ministries;
and be it further
RESOLVED, that district congregations be
encouraged to put these campus ministries in
their annual budgets; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the district find ways to
creatively support new ways for ministry to
happen in our already existing facilities; and
be it further
RESOLVED, that every effort be used to
keep these physical properties from being
sold, and be it finally
RESOLVED, that if these properties are sold,
their entire proceeds be used to fund campus
ministry in the Pacific Southwest District.

SALE OF PROPERTY-08
Resolution re: Require the sale of district
property to be used principally to finance
mission and ministry
WHEREAS, the Pacific Southwest District
has become “encumbered with a debt of
nearly $8 Million” (Budget Report, Pacific
Southwest District, January 2012); and
WHEREAS, this same report indicates that
the Board of Directors has decided to sell off
at least $6 Million in property in order to
reduce the debt to $2 Million; and
