Resolution re: To Support the Campus<br />
Ministries<br />
District<br />
of the Pacific Southwest<br />
WHEREAS, our district currently owns and<br />
operates at different levels three campus<br />
ministries, namely, Alleluia Lutheran<br />
Church/Student Ministry at Arizona State<br />
University – Tempe, AZ, University Lutheran<br />
Church at University of California San Diego<br />
– La Jolla, CA, and University Lutheran<br />
Chapel at University of California Los<br />
Angeles – Los Angeles, CA; and<br />
WHEREAS, at least University Lutheran<br />
Chapel at UCLA was purchased and paid for<br />
by money from Synod and at a later point was<br />
deeded over to the District for the work of<br />
ministry on the campus of UCLA; and<br />
WHEREAS, thousands of students at these<br />
universities have been and continue to be<br />
impacted by these campus ministries; and<br />
WHEREAS, we currently have a physical<br />
presence at each of these three universities;<br />
and<br />
WHEREAS, the physical presence of both a<br />
mission-minded Pastor and a physical building<br />

WHEREAS, campus ministries, by their<br />
nature will rarely become fully self-supporting<br />
congregations; therefore be it<br />
RESOLVED, that the Pacific Southwest<br />
District find ways to financially support the<br />
ministry at each of these campus ministries;<br />
and be it further<br />
RESOLVED, that district congregations be<br />
encouraged to put these campus ministries in<br />
their annual budgets; and be it further<br />
RESOLVED, that the district find ways to<br />
creatively support new ways for ministry to<br />
happen in our already existing facilities; and<br />
be it further<br />
RESOLVED, that every effort be used to<br />
keep these physical properties from being<br />
sold, and be it finally<br />
RESOLVED, that if these properties are sold,<br />
their entire proceeds be used to fund campus<br />
ministry in the Pacific Southwest District.<br />

Resolution re: Require the sale of district<br />
property to be used principally to finance<br />
mission and ministry<br />
WHEREAS, the Pacific Southwest District<br />
has become “encumbered with a debt of<br />
nearly $8 Million” (Budget Report, Pacific<br />
Southwest District, January 2012); and<br />
WHEREAS, this same report indicates that<br />
the Board of Directors has decided to sell off<br />
at least $6 Million in property in order to<br />
reduce the debt to $2 Million; and<br />
