Convention Workbook

To pursue these goals, our Synod has divided
itself into districts through which a broad
range of efforts in mission and ministry are
undertaken. Conventions of our Synod and its
districts gather every three years and receive
reports from elected officers, boards,
committees, and task forces. Decisions for
action, based on reports, resolutions, and
recommendations by congregations,
conferences, and others help to determine our
joint work for the days before us.
We pray that this convention will encourage
and inspire us all to be about our Father’s
business with great joy and deep commitment.
Convention Conference Schedule
Considerations
Conventions have a certain quality of
sameness about them; yet, each one is unique.
That is certainly going to be the case for our
43 nd Regular District Convention.
To help us fulfill the business portion of the
convention, we have provided four working
sessions. Because our time is limited, every
effort will be made to follow the schedule very
closely. Please take note of the enclosed
schedule that will keep you on course
throughout the event.
Reverend Herbert Mueller, Jr., First Vice
President of The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod, will present the Synod President’s
Report. President Matthew Harrison will be
the preacher at the Jubilarian and Memorial
Service on Thursday evening. There will also
be time allotted for Q & A with President
Harrison and delegates are asked to submit
questions in writing prior to the start of the
Business Session on Friday morning. A
number of inspirational worship experiences
are included in this gathering, including a
Convention Worship Celebration with Holy
Communion on Wednesday evening and a
Jubilarian and Memorial Service on Thursday
evening. This service will honor those
professional church workers who have died
during the past triennium and those current
workers who have celebrated significant
anniversaries in ministry.
Convention Conference Objectives
Somewhere between 500–600 official
delegates, advisors, and officers will be
participating in the Convention. To make this
experience as meaningful and fruitful as
possible for you, we encourage you to be
conscientious in your involvement at all of the
sessions including Friday morning.
Promptness, attentiveness, and active
participation will go a long way to keeping you
in tune with what is happening. To assist you
in your involvement, we want to point out
three main focal points of the convention
sessions:
Reports to the Convention
Officers, boards, and committees of the
District have submitted to the Convention
Workbook reports on their activities since the
last convention in 2009. These reports are
subject to the evaluation of the Convention
through the floor committees assigned to each
area of the District’s work.
The floor committee studies the reports
assigned to it in advance of convention
sessions and, according to the daily agenda,
appears before the delegates to offer
comment, summary, commendation, and
recommendation with respect to that specific
area of work. Please read through the
Convention reports in the Workbook before
the Convention sessions begin. Opportunity
will be provided for you to address the floor
committees during the open hearings, 9:00
a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
