Figure 2-5 shows that the proportion of <strong>Ocean</strong> <strong>Economy</strong> employment in each region is<br />

higher outside the major metropolitan areas. While the <strong>Ocean</strong> <strong>Economy</strong> is about 2.5% of<br />

the total <strong>California</strong> economy, and 2.6% of the Southern <strong>California</strong> economy, it is nearly<br />

7.5% of the northern region. This mirrors a general pattern in the US <strong>Ocean</strong> <strong>Economy</strong>, in<br />

which employment is concentrated in urban areas, but the <strong>Ocean</strong> <strong>Economy</strong> plays a larger<br />

role in more rural areas.<br />
