and survival on alternate hosts. Conditions for survival during the off season may not<br />

be suitable for pathogen’s establishment. Considering the severe potential yield losses,<br />

this biotic stress raises concerns for food security in important wheat producing regions.<br />

Research is urgently needed on epidemiology, fungicide control, mechanisms of infection<br />

and host-pathogen interactions. The need for novel resistance and adequate screening<br />

methodologies in controlled and field condition is paramount.<br />
