Bani Sweef 6 is a newly released durum wheat cultivar developed by the National wheat Research
program, Field Crops Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, Egypt. This new cultivar
was selected from CTMMYT materials grown at Sids Research station at Middle Egypt in
2002/2003 season. The cross and pedigree are Boomer-21/Busca-3 and CDSS 95 Y001185-8Y-
0M-0Y-0B-0SD. The new cultivar was evaluated for grain yield in 32 locations of different levels
of environments during four successive seasons (2003 through 2007) in RCBD experiments. On
the average, the new cultivar (Bani Sweef 6) outyielded the average of five durum wheat check
cultivars (Bain Sweef 1, 3, 4, 5, and Sohag 3) by 10.96% at Middle Egypt, 10.77% at Upper Egypt
and 8.91% at newly reclaimed lands out valley. Besides being higher yielding ability it has better
stability parameters in the main regions of durum wheat areas. The new cultivar exhibited high
levels of resistance to leaf and stem rusts at North and West Delta which are considered hot spots
for rusts in Egypt. The new cultivar Bani Sweef 6 could be recommended for Middle and Upper
Egypt and under the newly reclaimed land conditions
