environment were observed in yield. Moreover, the molecular characterization allowed<br />

us to determine the genetic variability in genes of agronomic interest, providing useful<br />

information for breeding purposes in the evaluated germplasm. Association studies<br />

considering genes and quality traits and yield showed significant effects only in quality<br />

traits. In the case of yield, the incorporation into the model of additional adaptation genes<br />

as well as the probable interaction between genes will probably provide a better picture<br />

of the genetic basis of a complex trait like yield.<br />
