Occurrences relative to flight rules and conditions<br />
There were slightly more aircraft operat<strong>in</strong>g under IFR that were <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong><br />
occurrences <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> vic<strong>in</strong>ity <strong>of</strong> <strong>non</strong>-<strong>towered</strong> <strong>aerodromes</strong> (56 per cent <strong>of</strong> all<br />
occurrences) than those operat<strong>in</strong>g under VFR (45 per cent <strong>of</strong> all occurrences).<br />
Most <strong>in</strong>cidents occurred <strong>in</strong> visual meteorological conditions (n=501). Very few<br />
(n=13) occurred <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>strument conditions – <strong>the</strong>se generally <strong>in</strong>volved a conflict with<br />
ano<strong>the</strong>r aircraft dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>itial climb after take<strong>of</strong>f, or dur<strong>in</strong>g descent prior to <strong>the</strong><br />
approach. There were an additional 187 occurrences <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> flight conditions at<br />
<strong>the</strong> time were unknown.<br />
