Terms <strong>and</strong> definitions<br />

entitled to participate in the technical committees <strong>and</strong> work groups of PNO.<br />

PROFIBUS/-NET. This way, the PROFIBUS/-NET technology is guaranteed to be<br />

<strong>PROFINET</strong>-Node<br />
Device which communicates with other devices via the <strong>PROFINET</strong> cable (controller,<br />
device)<br />
Programming device<br />
Adapted to the size of the programmable logic controller (PLC) there a many types<br />
of programming devices <strong>and</strong> / or software offered by the manufacturer.<br />
Single-comm<strong>and</strong> programming device: This programming device is useful <strong>for</strong> small<br />
modifications of existing programs<br />
Specific computer hardware <strong>and</strong> software provided by the manufacturer of special<br />
programming languages , such as „Ladder Logic“, include special functions <strong>for</strong><br />
automation applications or <strong>for</strong> industrial environments. These programming devices<br />
are upgraded to development tools so that all commissioning steps can be<br />
per<strong>for</strong>med.<br />
PC-compatible software to ensure the use of a normal, st<strong>and</strong>ard PC or notebook as<br />
a programming device. Special hardware, <strong>for</strong> example a <strong>PROFINET</strong> interface, is<br />
required in order to upgrade this system to a development tool.<br />
Switch<br />
A device operating as active star point to connect <strong>PROFINET</strong> devices. Switches<br />
analyze the inbound data packets <strong>and</strong> route them to the port where the receiver is<br />
registered.<br />
