Cotone<strong>as</strong>ter glaucophyllus<br />

Orange winter berries feed the birds while this small, evergreen shrub provides texture in the garden, the tiny<br />

leaves, dark gray-green with lighter undersides, on upright stems that arch with age. To 4 ft ft tall and<br />

spreading to 4-5 ft wide, but e<strong>as</strong>ily trimmed to any size. Pinkish-white flowers appear in early summer. Good<br />

<strong>as</strong> a small hedge or ground cover in sun to part shade. Drought tolerant once established but accepts summer<br />

water. Frost hardy in upper <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Cupressus macrocarpa 'Fine Gold' golden monterey cypress<br />

One <strong>of</strong> several golden forms <strong>of</strong> the revered Monterey cypress, this one providing not only a narrow, upright<br />

form in the garden, but also one <strong>of</strong> bright, rich yellow....and the aroma <strong>of</strong> lemon soap. An e<strong>as</strong>y and f<strong>as</strong>t grower<br />

to about 15 ft. Best if given somewhat lean soil, <strong>as</strong> too many nutrients make for bolting growth and instability<br />

-- at le<strong>as</strong>t in the plant. Fine container specimen. Wonderful <strong>as</strong> garden accent or formal element. Does not<br />

perform <strong>as</strong> well in high summer heat and humidity - e.g. Florida. Frost hardy to the upper end <strong>of</strong> <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong><br />

Cupressus sempervirens 'Glauca' italian cypress<br />

A lovely blue form <strong>of</strong> the cl<strong>as</strong>sic Italian cypress. This landscape plant for Mediterranean climates grows to 10<br />

ft tall x 18” wide in <strong>as</strong> many years, an excellent upthrusting element in your urban landscape. Full sun, welldrained<br />

soil and not much supplemental water once established. Also good in pots. Cold hardy to the single<br />

digits, mid <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Best in rich soil, well-drained and moist. Nearly evergreen in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 8; dies back and resprouts in <strong>zone</strong><br />

Semi-evergreen iris relative, with fabulous, 3-petalled blue flowers from July-September. A clumping plant, to<br />

2 ft tall, with blue-green leaves in a fan shape. These are native to Argentina and like full sun, and rich welldrained<br />

soil with occ<strong>as</strong>ional deep watering. Frost hardy to 5F, upper <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Di<strong>as</strong>cia 'Blue Bonnet' twin spur<br />

An e<strong>as</strong>y, long lived perennial from South Africa for a sunny spot with intriguing flowers from June through<br />

frost that open apricot and fade to p<strong>as</strong>tel blue at the edges. Grows to 18” tall and spreads or spills where the<br />

soil is moist and well-drained. Full sun to light shade. Hardy to 5F.<br />
