Vaccinium corymbosa 'Ivanhoe'' ivanhoe blueberry<br />

Highbush blueberry, that produces heavy mid se<strong>as</strong>on crops <strong>of</strong> large berries with a rather tart flavor that is a<br />

favorite amongst bakers <strong>as</strong>, when combined with sugar, the blueberry t<strong>as</strong>te comes through wonderfully.<br />

Vigorous and productive to 5-6 ft x 4-5 ft at maturity; great fall color. Plant in acid, well-drained soil with<br />

regular summer water in sun to part shade. Plant two varieties for best fruit production and prune away old,<br />

woody stems once plant is established. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 4.<br />

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Earliblue' blueberry<br />

An early ripening blueberry to 4-6 ft with and upright, compact habit, red new growth, lovely red fall color,<br />

and bright red stems in winter. Oh, did we forget to mention t<strong>as</strong>ty blueberries. Sun, food, and summer water<br />

for best fruiting. <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 4.<br />

Veronica spicata 'Blue Fox' spike speedwell<br />

Blue-flowering perennial, forming upright clumps, to 1-2 ft tall, and spikes <strong>of</strong> lavender-blue flowers in<br />

summer. Food for bees and charm for people. Full sun to part shade in well-drained soil with some summer<br />

water. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 4.<br />

Yucca filamentosa 'Gold Stripe'<br />

Discovered in the nursery <strong>as</strong> a striped sport <strong>of</strong> Y. filamentosa 'Gold Sword', each leaf adorned with very<br />

narrow creamy gold and blue green lines. Upright and vigorous to 18" in height and 3 ft or so across with,<br />

typically, 4 ft spikes <strong>of</strong> white flowers, most <strong>of</strong>ten in June. Full sun to dappled shade; otherwise extremely<br />

tolerant <strong>of</strong> any conditions thrown at it. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 4.<br />

Yucca flaccida 'Garlands Gold'<br />

This southe<strong>as</strong>tern native yucca, from clearings and sandy spots, is used to high rainfall and frozen ground in<br />

winter so remains one <strong>of</strong> the most cold hardy species. The small clumps <strong>of</strong> under 2' have gently recurved<br />

leaves with blue-green tint and small threads along their margins. Y f. 'Garland's Gold' h<strong>as</strong> generous deep<br />

yellow margins taking up over 1/2 the leaf surface, yet the plant remains vigorous. Striking for use <strong>as</strong> a focal<br />

point or hardy container plant. Full sun to dappled shade; would prefer decent drainage and a bit <strong>of</strong> summer<br />

irrigation where dry. <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 4.<br />

Yucca flaccida 'Golden Sword'<br />

An e<strong>as</strong>y to grow Yucca that you will never impale yourself on. Brilliant golden variegated, evergreen foliage<br />

to about 3 feet high and wide. In summer, 6 foot flowers stalks emerge topped with creamy white, nodding<br />

and fragrant bell flowers. Full sun to light shade. Summer water for f<strong>as</strong>ter growth. Cold hardy to 30 below.<br />
