One <strong>of</strong> the boldest plants we sell. After 3 years, 20 foot stems with 10 foot long leaves and drooping branches<br />
<strong>of</strong> huge yellow flowers followed <strong>by</strong> real (insipid) banan<strong>as</strong>. Full to part sun, serious irrigation and heavy<br />
fertilizer. Plant 6" deeper than soil in can. Cold hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7a. Wow.<br />

Myrica californica pacific bayberry, pacific wax myrtle<br />
Large shrub with multiple upright stems, to 15 ft or so, but e<strong>as</strong>ily kept smaller. Can be shorn into a hedge or<br />
trained to tree form with a single trunk. Evergreen leaves are long and fine textured, emerging apple-green<br />
and turning darker with age. One <strong>of</strong> our best natives, <strong>of</strong>ten found growing along the immediate West Co<strong>as</strong>t in<br />
full sun to half shade and good drainage. Tolerates drought on the co<strong>as</strong>t but looks better with at le<strong>as</strong>t<br />
occ<strong>as</strong>ional summer water. Frost hardy to 0F, <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Myrtus luma 'Glanleam Gold'<br />
Cheerful, large shrub, slowly to 8 ft or so, with cinnamon bark peeling in patches and tiny, evergreen leaves<br />
variegated with creamy yellow margins and pink tinged when young. Small, white spring flowers become<br />
edible fruit, it is said. Sun to part shade -- afternoon shade in hottest climates -- with good drainage and<br />
regular summer water. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Nerium oleander 'Hardy White' hardy white oleander<br />
The hardiest <strong>of</strong> the oleander clones in cultivation, these with pure white flowers on 4-6 ft, evergreen shrubs.<br />
Full sun, bright and bl<strong>as</strong>ty, is what they like without requiring a great deal <strong>of</strong> supplemental irrigation in<br />
summer. Undamaged when temperatures dip to the mid teens, mid <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 8, though the leaves can burn<br />
around 14F. Plants have resprouted from the low single digits in <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Nolina 'La Siberica' [D07-64]<br />
A <strong>Cistus</strong> introduction. Selected from seed collected at 8000 ft, in La Siberica, Mexico, this handsome plant, a<br />
symmetrical fountain <strong>of</strong> long, graceful, flowing leaves, eventually develops a trunk up to 6 ft tall. Definitely<br />
attracts attention on the <strong>Cistus</strong> garden. Enjoys full sun and requires very little summer water. Frost hardy to<br />
0F, <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 7.<br />

Nolina microcarpa sacahuista, sawgr<strong>as</strong>s, beargr<strong>as</strong>s<br />
Smallish clumping sotol. Three foot long narrow leaves form a dense evergreen mound. White flowers held<br />
well above foliage in summer. Full sun, a little summer water. Good drainage.<br />
