One <strong>of</strong> our most popular plants, this garden hybrid <strong>of</strong> D. laureola and D. mezereum is grown both for its<br />

gorgeous, semi-evergreen, red-purple leaves <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> its huge clusters <strong>of</strong> dark lilac, fragrant, spring flowers.<br />

Reaches 4 ft tall in full to part sun with good drainage and normal summer water. Cold hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong><br />

Delosperma cooperi hardy ice planbt<br />

South African succulent with fleshy, pointed leaves and bright pink, daisy-like flowers throughout the<br />

summer. To only a few inches tall and spreading to form a ple<strong>as</strong>ant mat, <strong>of</strong>ten covered completely in flowers<br />

during the summer months. Loves sun; requires good drainage, especially during the rainy winter months.<br />

Frost hardy to -20F, where dryish in winter or with that excellent drainage.<br />

An e<strong>as</strong>y and cold hardy ground-covering succulent selected <strong>by</strong> the Berkeley Botanic Garden, to only 6" tall<br />

forming clumps to 2 ft wide that trail over walls or containers or create an colorful mat, the evergreen leaves<br />

turning red in winter. Summer flowers are bright yellow daisys nearly covering the plant from late spring into<br />

summer. Sun to part shade is best in very well-drained soil with at le<strong>as</strong>t occ<strong>as</strong>ional summer water once<br />

established. Surprisingly frost hardy, accepting temperatures below 0F in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

Very nice, ground-covering geranium, to only a few inches tall and spreading to 14 inches wide with striking,<br />

crinkly green leaves and, best <strong>of</strong> all, simple white flowers with a lovely purple-black marking on the two top<br />

petals. Long blooming, this mat forming perennial is e<strong>as</strong>y in full sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil.<br />

Tolerates drought but accepts summer water. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

This fine-textured, broad-leaved evergreen can reach up to 6 ft in height and seldom exceeds 18" in diameter,<br />

small "Italian Cypress" and thrives even in a dappled shade garden. Part sun with regular summer water. Frost<br />

From Korea, a new forsythia on the scene, growing to about 4-6 ft and providing creamy yellow flowers in<br />

patterned and veined with cream and white, the patterns becoming infused with pink and maroon <strong>as</strong> the late<br />

fall color settles in, for year round-interest rather than the one-shot show that forsythi<strong>as</strong> usually provide. Plant<br />

<strong>as</strong> with other forsythi<strong>as</strong> in sun to dappled shade and provide summer water in dry climes. Frost hardy to<br />

<strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />
