Clump-forming evergreen perennial for moderate to the deepest shade (think very dark) with upright,<br />

sansevieria-like leaves, in this form dark green with white edges. Slow growing, but worth it reach an<br />

eventual 18" tall. Provide rich soil and summer water. Long l<strong>as</strong>ting container specimen indoors or out. Frost<br />

hardy to <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

The large, red, translucent thorns glow when backlit in the afternoon setting sun. Large, free flowering shrub<br />

to 8 ft tall and nearly <strong>as</strong> wide, best coppiced every few years for the new growth. Single white flowers in late<br />

spring are a handsome touch. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

A lovely and very cold hardy rosemary having survived temperatures down to -10F! To 3-5 ft tall or so in<br />

clumps <strong>as</strong> up to 10 ft wide after many years, this creature, originally found in Arp, Tex<strong>as</strong>, h<strong>as</strong> finely textured,<br />

evergreen foliage and dark blue flowers over a long blooming se<strong>as</strong>on. Prefers lean, well-drained soil and<br />

requires little summer water once established. Said to be deer resistant <strong>as</strong> well! Frost hardy to -10F, <strong>USDA</strong><br />

<strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

Small evergreen shrub, to 12-14” and slowly spreading, our plants from the Platt garden where its winter<br />

flowers heavily scent the air. Tiny white flowers; wonderfully spicy aroma. A must have for the shady garden<br />

with a little summer water. Extremely choice. Frost hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

How could you resist a plant with a name like doodle bug? And it's a carnivorous plant, no less. This lil'<br />

pitcher plant is a hybrid with good vigor and hardiness. Great for bogs or water gardens or any consistently<br />

damp spot. At le<strong>as</strong>t 6 hours <strong>of</strong> direct sun for best growth in spring and summer and enough moisture that the<br />

soil nevers dries out. Keep water level at or below the crown. Best in poor soil that is very acid, e.g.,<br />

sphagnum moss with 1/3 sand. Frost hardy to 0F, <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />

Saxifraga stolonifera 'Harvest Moon' strawberry begonia<br />

Just right for a carefree addition to a shaded spot, to only 3-6" tall , spreading slowly into small colonies with<br />

golden foliage. Best with just the right amount <strong>of</strong> light to bring out the brightest <strong>of</strong> yellows while avoiding any<br />

burn. Sprays <strong>of</strong> tiny white flowers appear in late spring to early summer. Extremely e<strong>as</strong>y in well-drained soil<br />

and summer moisture with a little dryness between waterings. Evergreen in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 8 and 9; root hardy<br />

in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 6.<br />
