The present report Beijing + 15: The Platform for Action and the European Union is the<br />
third review of development at the EU-level in relation to the 12 critical areas of concern of the<br />
PfA, building on the follow-up by the EU in 2000 and on the report from the Luxembourg<br />
Presidency in 2005.<br />
The report is based on the Council Conclusions on the follow-up of the Beijing PfA since 2005 and<br />
on information provided by the Member States in their answers to the UNECE questionnaire sent<br />
out in January 20<strong>09</strong>. Furthermore, Statistics Sweden has updated the statistics in some of the critical<br />
areas for this report.<br />
The report is divided into six sections. After the introduction (Part I), there is a description of the<br />
development of gender mechanisms at institutional level within the European Union. (Part II). In<br />
Part III the report describes the development of institutional gender mechanisms in the Member<br />
States as well as the development of indicators in this particular critical area of concern (H).<br />
Part IV analyses developments within the Member States in respect of the eleven critical areas of<br />
concern. In Part V, more general comments on the development concerning the twelve areas of<br />
concern are presented.<br />
In the last section (Part VI) the challenges of implementing and following up the development at<br />
EU level within the twelve critical areas of concern in the Beijing PfA are presented.<br />
This report has been realised under the supervision of the Ministry for Integration and Gender<br />
Equality in Sweden and Director Marianne Laxén has been responsible for its compilation. The<br />
